Animals Among Us

Dogs, Animals, Shelters & Me

The Wolf

wolflove.gif
The wolf is one of the most misunderstood animals on the planet. It has been accused of eating adults, babies, etc., none of which is true. In fact, the wolf is a creature of habit. They mate for life, unlike a human. They take care of their children and have been known to adopt other wolf pups, even other animals. Never in all the documented writings about a wolf, has it ever been written that they intentionally harmed a human. They are carnivores and will eat meat. They are faithful in packs and very protective of their own! The wolf is a marvel and he graces us with his presence just by being on the same planet with us.

African Elephant And Baby

The African Elephant is the largest of all. There are Asian Elepants and Indian Elephants both smaller than the African. The most noticable difference in telling them apart, is the size of their ears. The ears of the African Elephant are considerably larger. Admittedly, the African Elephant is the most formidable of all. It pains me to see them, put in a circus in Hawaii. An African elephant turned on its handler during a show. It ran thru the streets of Hawaii and was eventually killed. The good Lord made the elephant, made the perfect habitat for him. We with all of our wisdom, take the animal and put him into a show in the middle of a busy city, when he bolts, we kill him. What's wrong with this scenario?

Siberian Tiger
The Siberian tiger is an endangered animal. It is found in eastern Siberia and also in northern China and Korea. There may be as many Siberian tigers running free as there are in captivity. Estimates are that there are probably no more than 200 Siberian tigers left in the wild. The were 8 subspecies of tigers. Three of them are now extinct and the other 5 subspecies of tigers are endangered. The Siberian tiger is the largest living cat in the world, and needs to eat about 20 pounds of meat a day to stay alive in the cold climates. It can consume up to 200 pounds of meat a day. In the harsh Siberian winter the tiger's coat will lose some of its color. The winter coat doesn't have the red stripes of tigers from warmer climates. The white coat also helps to camouflage it in the snow. It also grows a longer and thicker coat than other tigers to help it survive the cold weather. Siberian tigers can be 9 to 12 feet long (from head to the tip of their tail) and are about 3 1/2 feet tall. Female tigers are somewhat smaller than the male tigers, and they can weigh between 400 to 650

Horses
The Horse, the most noble of all. That's my opinion. He is like a dog in some ways, but bigger. He comes when you call him, he loves his treats, loves to be ridden and most of all, loves scratching his back in the cool grass, when the bridle and saddle are taken off. He is a great animal. Personality, wisdom, friendliness, proud and a great heart!

The Manatee
The manatee is the one of the few animals that traces back to when the dinosaurs roamed the earth. A magnificent creature, which some people call the elephant of the sea. It is seen widely in Florida and in the winter months can be seen near the nuclear plants, because the water is warm. This beautiful and unique animal, which does date back to the dinosaurs has survived for many years. They are not creatures of the deep, they are mammals that have to breathe the same air we do. However, when they come to the surface, they are met with propellers from boats, endless garbage which entraps them and so many things that can cause a danger to them. Please, let's keep the manatee safe and let us not be known as the generation that caused their extinction!
